Freely adapted from Paradise (Part 3 of The Divine Comedy) by Dante (1265-1321). A poem filled with speed, energy, and pure light, but also bearing a few reminiscences of earthly mistakes.
“And I with vision new rekindled me,
Such that no light whatever is so pure
But that mine eyes were fortified against it.
And light I saw in fashion of a river
Fulvid with its effulgence, ’twixt two banks
Depicted with an admirable Spring.”
[English translation: François Couture, xi-07]
