Volume one of aesova’s field, site, and environmental recordings compilation
series. Six recordings from five artists edited to form a single, uninterupted track; the
documentary nature of field recording gives way to pure listening, perception of sound opens up
to allow everyday sounds to transcend function & meaning, taking on a new musical life
— an event in time transformed. •• Note: this CDR was made in

Alluvion’s work has fused high and low technology to explore the sounds
hidden in the everyday objects. The computer receives input from various sources - everything
from disembodied transistor radios and electromagnetic interference created by appliances, to
small bits of found cassette dragged across tape heads and email converted into audio files.
Physical sources are modified in a manner that is as much a part of the creative process as the
recording/mixing/editing. Radios and keyboards are torn apart, guitars are played with remote
controls and mallets, data files are scrambled and randomized, vinyl records are treated with
glue, carved with razors, coated with spray paint, left outdoors to endure the elements. The
supposed randomness of this inaudible portion of the compositional process is what gives life
to the sounds hidden in everyday objects, and forms the basis of Alluvion’s digital
explorations. •• Note: this CDR was made in 2002

Frans de Waard is mostly known by the various names he chooses for his projects
(Kapotte Muziek, Beequeen, Goem, Shifts, Freiband, Quest), but for a specific portion of his
musical output he uses his own name. This particular portion deals with environmental sounds.
In Klankschap #3, Frans de Waard uses the sound of a refrigerator, which makes an obnoxious
noise throughout the day — an unsilent machine, which is ’silenced’ in this
piece. •• Note: this CDR was made in 2002

Constructed from samples of chirping birds and whispering reeds, John
Hudak’s birds and reeds presents an artificial environment that incorporates the familiar
and identifiable sounds of the given elements as with subtle, slightly disorienting abstraction
of those sounds. The wavering pitches and patches of noise that make up the natural environment
are gradually shifted to a point just short of disassociating themselves from the
source.
