Work

Movement 4 of Human Music.

In 1969 I became friends with jazz musician Don Cherry (1936-1995). I knew very little about jazz but was open to the “free jazz” Cherry was then composing and performing. Cherry knew as little about electro-acoustic music. But the late sixties were a time of openness and experimentation. We were both involved with the rather forward looking record label Flying Dutchman and the producer Bob Thiele was open to a collaborative effort. The music is improvised. It is one of four pieces released on the long-playing record “Human Music.” I worked exclusively with a Moog synthesizer and Cherry improvised using his famous “pocket” trumpet and various ethnic instruments.
