Winners of the Destellos Foundation Competition Are…Foundation Destellos — created in 2007 through the initiative of Elsa Justel — has announced the winners of the 1st Competition of Electroacoustic Composition for Argentine composers. The Destellos Prize was awarded to the work Viscuap by Basilio del Boca. Lo inefable by Maria Cristina Kasem and Psiclos by Nicolás Ordiales received the Motus prize (ex æquo). The jury for Destellos Prize was made of Christian Clozier (France), Jens Hedman (Sweden), Alejandro Viñao (Argentina), Ingrid Drese (Belgium), and Benjamin Thigpen (USA). The jury for the Motus Prize was composed of Denis Dufour and Thomas Brando (France).

See Sonde Sound Structures, Montréal![]()
Sound has Legs, presented on May 1-June 1, 2008 at SAT in Montréal, is an exhibition that presents sound structures and visual documents pertaining to Sonde, the interdisciplinary group that was active for the most part from 1976 to ’86. In resonance with these archival materials, Nathan McNinch, a young composer from Kingston (Ontario), will unveil his first sound installation (curator Éric Mattson).

The latest album by Barry Truax released on the Cambridge Street Records label, Spirit Journies, proposes a symbolic and dreamlike journey that envelops the listener with rich and diverse sounds. They may come from the recordings of Canadian steam train whistles designed by Robert Swanson, as much as voices recorded in San Bartolomeo cathedral in Busetto (Italy), Inuit throat singing, or Japonese shakuhachi.

Canadians on DEGEM WebRadioThe DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) has hosted a number of Canadian electroacoustic composers over the years such as: Robin Minard, Gordon Monahan, Christian Calon, Francis Dhomont, and Robert Normandeau. The DEGEM and ZKM propose a WebRadio programme which features works composed by these past guest artists as well as by the newest Canadian guest, Gilles Gobeil, in Berlin since January 2008.
