[English translation not available]

Sacréboules [Damn Balls]; Le point de vue du parcomètre [From the Parking Meter’s Point of View]; Tonicité [Tonicity]

Composer: Christian Bouchard

Premiere: January 29, 1999, Usine C (Montréal, Québec)

Despite the fact that this piece — qualities, flaws and all — is my first electroacoustic work on digital medium, I wanted to include it here because, in the ideas it develops, it is a prelude to Parcelles.

Instructions: the pieces must be between two and four minutes long. Look for soundscapes bearing the traces of the human activity that will be the only material for a miniature. Include the complete samples selected at least once.

[English translation: François Couture, i-04]

Trois miniatures en suite (Three Miniatures in the form of a suite) was realized in 1997 at the studio of the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and was premiered on January 29, 1999 as part of the concert Hautes tensions presented by the ACREQ at the Usine C in Montreal. Trois miniatures en suite was awarded the First Prize of the Hugh Le Caine Prize of the SOCAN Foundation Awards for Young Composers (Canada, 1998). The miniature Tonicité was selected as a finalist in the Canadian Electroacoustic Community’s competition Jeu de temps / Times Play (CEC, Canada, 2000) and recorded in 2000 on the CD Cache 2000, CEC (PEP 003).

For base material, a single sound take.

4. jef chippewa: DUO (1997-98) 2m41s pep_003-1.4 | 17116 |

Composer: jef chippewa

the compositional and perceptual experience of DUO offers the potential for comprehension of musical interactions and appreciation of the correspondence of timbre and articulation types between two radically different worlds of sound production (that of the [alto] saxophone and of the analog synthesizer), instead of a lethargic experience of linear continuity, and establishment of familiarity on a superficial level.

thanks to Yves Charuest for his openness and flexibility as a performer and as a musician.
