Île bizarre is the fortunate encounter of three bruitists — Diane Labrosse, Ikue Mori and Martin Tétreault — who collage raw noises and spatial elements into elaborate sound clusters: a collection of beautiful interferences, pops and frying sounds. Île bizarre is based on extreme usage of minimal sound material. The resulting music is abstract and impressionistic — a kind of “cinema for the ears” akin to electroacoustic research. It is a series of immaterial journeys chock full of surrealist impressions, foreign ambiances, projections and memories. “Let’s say that we are ubiquitous and timeless. Let’s say that we are sensitive to the play of light and shadows, to the engulfment of perfume, to the charm of foreign languages. Let’s say that we are solitary souls; that we are wanderers, sea seekers; that our ears are wide open and that we have a lot of time on our hands.” —DL
