The Musica Nova 2011 International Electroacoustic Music Competition (Prague, Czech Republic) recently announced its laureates: Antonio Scarcia, Chien-Wen Cheng, Martin Klusák, Diana Salazar, Roderik de Man, Monty Adkins, John Young, and Alla Zagaykewich.
Pianist Xenia Pestova will perform three works written for her on September 29, 2011 at Powis Hall, Bangor (Wales, UK): Schattenklavier for piano and processing by Andrew Lewis, the British premiere of On the Impossibility of Reflection for piano and processing by Scott Wilson, and the premiere of John Young’s X for piano and tape. The programme will also include works by Messiaen, Mompou and Ravel.
John Young will soon be busy in New Zealand making a live radio appearance on Radio New Zealand Concert (August 10, 2010 at 7pm), giving classes at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch (August 16 + 18) and holding a research seminar and a composition workshop (August 24 + 27) at the School of Music of The University of Auckland. On September 2 at the New Zealand Electroacoustic Music Symposium (NZEMS) hosted by the National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries (NICAI) of The University of Auckland John Young will give the keynote address and present his 16-channel work Smoke and Mirrors in concert. The next day Arrivederci for ensemble and tape, and Are You Everybody?, a recent videomusic created with Lala Meredith-Vula, will also be performed.
The piece Lamentations by John Young will be premiered during the BEAST Plus: Text and Context concert on January 16, 2010 at the George Cadbury Hall of the University of Birmingham (UK).
John Young will present a concert at Fylkingen (Sweden) on February 26, 2009. The programme will include multichannel acousmatic and videomusic by composers from De Montfort University (UK) and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm (Sweden). John Young will present his works Tongue and Smoke and Mirrors and will also present talks at the Royal College in the following days.
John Young’s new work Smoke and Mirrors (2008) will be premiered on April 12, 2008 during the GRM’s Multiphonies concert series at Salle Olivier Messiaen in Paris (France).
Robert Normandeau and John Young will present concerts at the 7th Cultural Exchanges 2008 festival at De Montfort University in Leicester in February (England, UK). On February 27, 2008, Normandeau will present 4 works: Spleen, Murmures, Kuppel and Figures de rhétorique, the latter with UK pianist Sarah Nicolls. On February 25 Young will give the first public presentation of the Surround 5.1 version of Ricordiamo Forlì (made for his DVD-Audio Lieu-temps).
