Canadian Electroacoustics is prominently featured at Musicacoustica Beijing 2009 festival, October 25 - 31, 2009. On April 24, 2008, a 50-year journey proposed by José Manuel Berenguer & Carmen Pardo will be presented as part of the Ars Musica’s Night of the Electroacoustic Music. The event will take place at Kaaitheater in Brussels (Belgium). The concert is in three part, each of them is dedicated to a generation of composers. On programme, works by: Schaeffer, Varèse, Eimert, Stockhausen, Xenakis, Ferrari, Risset, Dhomont, Ferreyra, Mandolini, Vande Gorne, Polonio, Truax, Vaggione, and Kupper.
The latest album by Barry Truax released on the Cambridge Street Records label, Spirit Journies, proposes a symbolic and dreamlike journey that envelops the listener with rich and diverse sounds. They may come from the recordings of Canadian steam train whistles designed by Robert Swanson, as much as voices recorded in San Bartolomeo cathedral in Busetto (Italy), Inuit throat singing, or Japonese shakuhachi.
The 9th Sound Travels festival started on July 1, 2007 in Toronto and will last until October 1. This event directed by Darren Copeland will feature, Amongst others, Barry Truax, Kristi Allik, Trevor Wishart, and Tony Ka Tung Leung. Performances are planned for July 23, and August 10-12.
Darren Copeland, Steve Heimbecker, Barry Truax, and Hildegard Westerkamp are Amongst the renowned artists who will take part in The Art of Immersive Soundscapes 2 (AIS2) of the University of Regina (Canada). These creative and theoretical forums will take place from June 9 to 22, 2007. You can listen to Darren Copeland’s repertoire on his electroradio stream.
The Synthèse festival that takes place in Bourges (France) from June 1 to 10, 2007 promises us a great edition. Amongst guest artists, we can find Jon Appleton, Francis Dhomont, Louis Dufort, Denis Dufour, Beatriz Ferreyra, Max Mathews, Barry Truax, and Hans Tutschku. Francis Dhomont will notably present his work Premières traces du Choucas on June 4th and a lecture entitled Hypothèses sur un parcours personnel, the day after, on June 5th.
Oracle, a new work by Wende Bartley, will be premiered on June 10, 2006 at the Ontario College of Arts & Design (Toronto) for the “Power of Space” concert, presented by Contact Contemporary Music and New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA). Works by Barry Truax (Riverrun), Paul Dolden (Below the Walls of Jericho), Michael Gordon, and Iannis Xenakis will also be presented.
Katharine Norman’s book Sounding Art (242 pages + 1 CD) is now available on electrocd.com. The book describes various aspects of sound art, and presents the work of many artists such as Magali Babin, Luc Ferrari, Barry Truax, Francisco López, Hildegard Westerkamp, Francis Dhomont, Merzbow, John Oswald, and Martin Tétreault.
