Ai-maako 2009: Justel, Normandeau, Dhomont…Ai-maako, the 9th Festival Internacional de Música Electroacústica de Santiago de Chile, will take place on October 1 - 10, 2009 in Santiago (Chili). Amongst the selected works: Sisyphe by Francis Dhomont, Yegl by Elsa Justel, Murmures by Robert Normandeau, and Still Voices by Pete Stollery. Annette Vande Gorne will present a concert “carte blanche” on October 1 with amongst other, her works Figures d’espace, and Ce qu’a vu le vent d’Est. Elsa Justel will also present a “carte blanche” concert on October 8.

And the Winners of the Destellos Competition Are…The Foundation Destellos have announced the results of the second edition of their international competition of electroacoustic composition: Diana Simpson has received the first prize for her work Papyrus, and the Motus Prize has been awarded to Tormenta de campos fértiles by Fernando Iazzetta. Pete Stollery’s work Still Voices has had an honorary mention in the competition. The members of the jury 2009 were: Cort Lippe, Robin Minard, Jonty Harrison, Wilfried Jenztsch and Daniel Teruggi. The members of the Motus jury were Vincent Laubeuf, Guillaume Contré, and Todor Todoroff.

Premiere by Stollery, UKThe new piece Back to Square One by Pete Stollery which was commissioned by IMEB will be premiered on November 1, 2007 during the Sound Festival in Aberdeen (Scotland, UK). This year, the festival features Francoise Barrière’s music and other works from the Bourges competition(including Power Tools by Adrian Moore). Back to Square One will then be performed again at Soundings in Edinburgh on November 3.

The 2007 CIMESP Laureates, BrazilThe 7th International Electroacoustic Music Contest of São Paulo (CIMESP 2007) received works of 208 composers from 33 countries! The international jury formed by Christian Calon, Gilles Gobeil, Flo Menezes and João Pedro Oliveira has awarded, amongst others, Liaisons mécaniques by Nicolas Bernier (2nd Prize ex aequo) and honorable mentions were given to 7 works, including those of Elizabeth Anderson, Manuella Blackburn, António Ferreira, Raúl Minsburg, Steingrimur Rohloff, Diana Simpson, Hans Tutschku. Premières traces du Choucas by Francis Dhomont won the Public Prize. Were also announced the selected works for the upcoming 7th International Biennial for Electroacoustic Music of São Paulo (VII BIMESP 2008) in the fall of 2008. They include: Last Thoughts Before Silence by Mathew Adkins, scènes, rendez-vous by Pete Stollery, Kaleidoscope: Arcade by Peter Batchelor, When I was Wood by Stephan Dunkelman.

CIMESP and Sweden at BIMESP, BrazilThe 6th BIMESP festival — directed by Flô Menezes — took place from June 10 to 17, 2006 at Villa Mariani in São Paulo (Brazil). Some of the concerts presented works from the 4th CIMESP 2001 (International Electroacoustic Music Contest of São Paulo) such as Vol d’Arondes by Francis Dhomont, Serendipities and Synchronicities by Pete Stollery, Rojo by Hans Tutschku, Silk to Steel by Mathew Adkins, and Éden by Robert Normandeau. One concert was dedicated to works from Sweden, including the recent Dreaming in Darkness by Åke Parmerud and works by Skog, Johansson, Hedman, Grahn, Sundin, and Liljekvist.

Stollery Composes at the GRM, ParisPete Stollery will be working on a new acousmatic piece in the studios of the GRM in late June 2006. Taking Claude Lelouch’s 1970s classic film C’était un rendez-vous (a 9-minute film of a Mercedes driving in Paris, as seen from its bumper) as a starting point, he will make a new piece using sounds recorded on the same route which the Mercedes took. Stollery is also working on two mixed works: Planar for trumpet for Mark O’Keeffe from the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra; the second, b3:dz, for organ Richard Turbet.

Dhomont, Harrison… Invited to SardiniaLudger Brümmer, Kevin Austin, Flô Menezes, Francis Dhomont, Lucio Garau, and Jonty Harrison are the guest composers at the 3rd Festival di musica acusmatica, June 23 to 25, 2006 in Cagliari (Sardinia). On June 24, Dhomont will spatialize works by several Québec composers: Noyade en magma by Dominique Bassal, 13'13 pour voix défigurées by Monique Jean and Time Well / La fontaine du temps by Christian Calon, and a work by Brümmer. Voyage-miroir by Dhomont will be presented by another guest composer, Garau. Finally, several other composers from empreintes DIGITALes will also be featured: Gobeil, Moore, Álvarez, Smalley, Tutschku, Fort, Stollery, and Lillios!

Harrison and Vande Gorne at Nuit bleue 2005Élektrophonie presents the 2005 Nuit bleue from July 8 to 10, 2005 at Arc et Senans’ Saline Royale (France). Nuit bleue 2005 is the 4th edition of this festival dedicated to new electroacoustic and electronic music, and is presented in coproduction with the University of Birmingham (United Kingdom) and Musiques & Recherches (Belgium). Every acousmatic composition will be spatialized on acousmonium by Sébastien Chatron, Jonty Harrison, Isabel Pires and Annette Vande Gorne. The night will feature compositions by Pete Stollery, Adrian Moore, Denis Smalley, Stephan Dunkelman, Ingrid Drese, Robert Normandeau, Francis Dhomont, Patrick Ascione, Andrew Lewis, Trevor Wishart, Annette Vande Gorne, Elizabeth Anderson, Theodore Lotis, Roger Cochini, Bernard Fort, Jonty Harrison, John Young, David Berezan et Beatriz Ferreyra, amongst others. The concert will then be repeated integrally in Birmingham (UK) on July 16, 2005.

2005 Bourges WinnersThe winners of the 32nd Bourges International Competition of Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art (France) have been announced. The Magisterium was awarded to composer Åke Parmerud and his work SubString Bridge, for guitar and interactive computer. Mathew Adkins received a mention in the “abstract music” category for Silk to Steel. Pete Stollery’s Vox Magna was also selected in this category. Other pieces were selected in various categories: Ombres, espaces, silences… by Gilles Gobeil, Cold Storage by Janek Schaefer, Piano Piece (for Peter) by Adrian Moore, and Aesthetics of the Machine by Elio Martusciello. Notably, composer Roxanne Turcotte saw two of her works selected, Sons et tintamarre in the “programme music” category and Micro-trottoir in the “work for installation” category.
