    Text

“… a well thought out and meticulously sequenced collection of sounds…”

Kevin M Krebs has a forte for creating electronic music using several mediums from field recordings to captured radio signals to purely computer/software generated sounds, and he also has a special gift for juxtaposing opposites in his music - concrete vs. abstract, material vs. spiritual, organic vs. synthesized etc. With Hemel, Jos Smolders puts forth a potent composition that both encapsulates and reflects the methods, sounds, and abilities of Kevin M Krebs. Hemel is a well thought out and meticulously sequenced collection of sounds made up of, among other things, terse startling bursts of noise, brief interludes of near silence, slightly discordant strummed guitar, melancholy chords, high frequency hiss, rhythms made from the sizzle of static, found sounds, abstract percussion, metallic noises, and distant radio voices.
