Gobeil, Smalley… at Northeastern, Boston

The Music Technology program at Northeastern University in Boston (USA) is presenting a 4-concert electroacoustic concert series this winter 2010. Concert #1 on January 23, 2010 is featuring Gilles Gobeil (and will include Dreams in the Desert by Elainie Lillios) and concert #2 on February 13 is featuring Denis Smalley (and will include à la cire perdue by Laurie Radford). Both these first concerts are presented at The Fenway Center in Boston (USA).

Conference + Inventionen Festival, Berlin

The 5th edition of the Sound and Music Computing Conference (SMC ’08) will take place from July 31 to August 3, 2008 in Berlin (Germany). Starting July 23 concerts will be presented as part of the Inventionen 2008 festival. The joined programme is absolutely outstanding: many artists will be there, such as Martin Bédard, François Bayle, Ivo Malec, Bernard Parmegiani, Jean-Claude Risset, Denis Smalley, Horacio Vaggione, Annette Vande Gorne… Not to be missed:

Dhomont, Harrison… Invited to Sardinia

Ludger Brümmer, Kevin Austin, Flô Menezes, Francis Dhomont, Lucio Garau, and Jonty Harrison are the guest composers at the 3rd Festival di musica acusmatica, June 23 to 25, 2006 in Cagliari (Sardinia). On June 24, Dhomont will spatialize works by several Québec composers: Noyade en magma by Dominique Bassal, 13'13 pour voix défigurées by Monique Jean and Time Well / La fontaine du temps by Christian Calon, and a work by Brümmer. Voyage-miroir by Dhomont will be presented by another guest composer, Garau. Harrison and Vande Gorne at Nuit bleue 2005

Élektrophonie presents the 2005 Nuit bleue from July 8 to 10, 2005 at Arc et Senans’ Saline Royale (France). Nuit bleue 2005 is the 4th edition of this festival dedicated to new electroacoustic and electronic music, and is presented in coproduction with the University of Birmingham (United Kingdom) and Musiques & Recherches (Belgium). Every acousmatic composition will be spatialized on acousmonium by Sébastien Chatron, Jonty Harrison, Isabel Pires and Annette Vande Gorne. The night will feature compositions by Pete Stollery, Adrian Moore, Denis Smalley, Stephan Dunkelman, Ingrid Drese, Robert Normandeau, Francis Dhomont, Patrick Ascione, Andrew Lewis, Trevor Wishart, Annette Vande Gorne, Elizabeth Anderson, Theodore Lotis, Roger Cochini, Bernard Fort, Jonty Harrison, John Young, David Berezan et Beatriz Ferreyra, amongst others. The concert will then be repeated integrally in Birmingham (UK) on July 16, 2005.

Barrett and Smalley’s Premieres at Sonorities, Belfast

Composers Natasha Barrett and Denis Smalley will each premiere a new composition for the Sonorities festival of contemporary music, held in Belfast (Northern Irland) from April 23 to May 1, 2004. Natasha Barrett presents her new work, Abemolpas, April 27. This concert also features works by Christian Calon and Elio Martusciello. The following day, April 28, Denis Smalley will premiere his new composition, entitled Resounding. On, April 29 the concert will feature works by Robert Normandeau and Jonty Harrison. Finally, the May 1 concert will showcase the works of Barry Truax, including the latest “remix” of his classic composition Riverrun

The annual SEAMUS (Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States) national conference will be held in Iowa City (USA), April 4 - 6, 2002. Denis Smalley is the guest composer and will present his composition Base Metals, available on the album Sources/scènes. He will also participate in various panel discusions. One of the research presentations take one of Gilles Gobeil’s composition as subject; Joseph Harchanko’s paper, “Using Spectro-morpholgy to Explain Structuring Process in Gilles Gobeil’s ‘Le vertige inconnu’.” This piece is released on Gobeil’s first CD, La mécanique des ruptures.
