Conference + Inventionen Festival, BerlinThe 5th edition of the Sound and Music Computing Conference (SMC ’08) will take place from July 31 to August 3, 2008 in Berlin (Germany). Starting July 23 concerts will be presented as part of the Inventionen 2008 festival. The joined programme is absolutely outstanding: many artists will be there, such as Martin Bédard, François Bayle, Ivo Malec, Bernard Parmegiani, Jean-Claude Risset, Denis Smalley, Horacio Vaggione, Annette Vande Gorne… Not to be missed:

Acousmatic Festival, SardiniaThe 5th edition of the Festival di interpretazione della musica acusmatica in Cagliari (Italia) will take place from June 26-29, 2008 at the Università di Cagliari (Facoltà di lettere e filosofia). The opening day will be dedicated to a round-table conference followed by a series of double concert programmes curated respectively by Stéphane Roy and Beatriz Ferreyra; Diego Losa and Leo Kupper; Lucio Garau and Åke Parmerud. Also, the piece Les Territoires secrets by Stéphane Roy will be premiered as part of the Lucio Garau concert (June 29).

Parmerud in Concert in León, MexicoÅke Parmerud was invited to the Festival Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo in León (Mexico) which took place from April 25 to May 7, 2006. His solo concert on April 28 at Teatro María Grever presented five of his works: Dreaming in Darkness, Bows, Arcs and The Arrow of Time, The Beauty of Change, and La vie mécanique. Other concerts in this festival of music, dance, theatre, visual arts and cinema featured electroacoustics by Manuel Rocha-Iturbide, Kanata Horio, Roscoe Mitchell, and Roberto Morales Manzanares. CIMESP and Sweden at BIMESP, BrazilThe 6th BIMESP festival — directed by Flô Menezes — took place from June 10 to 17, 2006 at Villa Mariani in São Paulo (Brazil). Some of the concerts presented works from the 4th CIMESP (International Electroacoustic Music Contest of São Paulo) such as Vol d’Arondes by Francis Dhomont, Serendipities and Synchronicities by Pete Stollery, Rojo by Hans Tutschku, Silk to Steel by Mathew Adkins, and Éden by Robert Normandeau. One concert was dedicated to works from Sweden, including the recent Dreaming in Darkness by Åke Parmerud and works by Skog, Johansson, Hedman, Grahn, Sundin, and Liljekvist.

Daoust, Dufort, Oswald, Parmerud… Head Sound Creartion Workshop, OrfordThe Orford Arts Centre (Québec) announces its new Sound Creation Workshop as part of the international Music Academy. Held from June 26 to July 8, 2006, this workshop is open to sound creators of all styles. The guests “masters” are John Oswald, Åke Parmerud, Yves Daoust, Alexandre Burton, Louis Dufort, and flutist Robert Aitken. 2005 Bourges WinnersThe winners of the 32nd Bourges International Competition of Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art (France) have been announced. The Magisterium was awarded to composer Åke Parmerud and his work SubString Bridge, for guitar and interactive computer. Mathew Adkins received a mention in the “abstract music” category for Silk to Steel. Pete Stollery’s Vox Magna was also selected in this category. Other pieces were selected in various categories: Ombres, espaces, silences… by Gilles Gobeil, Cold Storage by Janek Schaefer, Piano Piece (for Peter) by Adrian Moore, and Aesthetics of the Machine by Elio Martusciello. Notably, composer Roxanne Turcotte saw two of her works selected, Sons et tintamarre in the “program music” category and Micro-trottoir in the “work for installation” category.
