alcides lanza will be in Rosario (Argentina) on May 5 to 8, 2007 to present a master class of Canadian-Argentinian electroacoustic music. The programme notably includes works by Wende Bartley, Gilles Gobeil, and John Oliver.
Alternate Visions, an “augmented” opera by John Oliver using state-of-the-art technology, will be presented on May 1 — 5, 2007 at Usine C, in Montréal. The music of Chants libres’s 12th production is signed by John Oliver, the libretto by Genni Gunn, and is staged by Pauline Vaillancourt.
The music of past Chants libres productions is available on disc: Yo soy la desintegración, and Ne blâmez jamais les bédouins.
New Music Concerts will present its second “Rien à voir” concert on January 13, 2007 at the Isabel Bader Theatre (Toronto, Canada). The concert will feature the works Ombres, espaces, silences… by Gilles Gobeil, an excerpt of Nylong Symphony by John Oliver, Palimpseste by Robert Normandeau, and Fluke Sound by Ann Southam. Two seminal works for tape by György Ligeti, Artikulation and Glissandi, will also be presented.
Louis Dufort will present his acousmatic work Grain de sable, and John Oliver will present Dust, a mixed work for clarinet and tape performed by François Houle, on December 2, 2006 at a concert prduced by NEXMAP at the Recombinant Media Labs in San Francisco.
John Oliver’s composition Dust (available on the CD Double Entendre) is a finalist in the Outstanding Classical Composition category of the Western Canadian Music Awards to be held in Winnipeg on October 22, 2006.
