Jacky Mérit (Vendée, France, 1964)

• composer

After studying the plastic arts at the École des Beaux-arts in Tours in 1989 (post-graduate diploma in Plastic Arts), he focused his research around sound and attempted to apply his methods as a plastic artist to his sound compositions. Originally based on the exploration of sound matter and narration, his work is today focused on the plastic and architectural dimension of sound as well as on the notion of the “polyphony” of space and a certain physiology of listening. Grand Prix “Les Pierre d’Or” at the International Electroacoustic Music Competition in Bourges (IMEB), in 1999 with the piece Emphase. Commissioned by the IMEB in 2000. First prize for electroacoustic composition at the EAR’01 competition, at Hear studio in Budapest (Hungary), in October 2001 for the work Involution. He also composes music for dance, theatre, film and the plastic arts. He is a member of the S.A.M. collective (Structure d’Action Musicale — Musical Action Structure) in Toulouse, France.
