Richard Karpen (New York City, NY, USA, 1957) is a Professor of Music at the University of Washington (Seattle, USA) where he teaches composition and computer music and directs the Center for Advanced Research Technology in the Arts and Humanities (CARTAH). He studied composition with Charles Dodge, Gheorghe Costinescu, and Morton Subotnick. He holds a doctorate in composition from Stanford University (California, USA) and has been the recipient of numerous awards for his work. His music has also been released on disc by Le Chant du monde, Wergo, Centaur, and Neuma.
