First Weekend of Soundings… in Edinburgh, UK

This first weekend of Soundings… has 4 concerts on October 27 to 29, 2006 at the Reid Concert Hall in Edinburgh (UK). On October 28 Pete Stollery will premiere scènes/rendez-vous, composed at the GRM studios, and spatialize the works … et ainsi de suite… by Jonty Harrison, and Espace / Escape by Francis Dhomont. Natasha Barrett, Gilles Gobeil, Elsa Justel, Denis Smalley, and Annette Vande Gorne are amongst the twenty composers performed.

35 Hours of Non-Stop Electro at Futura 06, Crest, France

This year, the Futura 06 festival in Crest (France) is compressed into a 3-day event — August 18 - 20, 2006 — and into one 35-hour concert. Amongst the featured composers: Luc Ferrari (homage), Michèle Bokanowski, Michel Chion, Darren Copeland, Matmos, Yann Paranthoën (homage), Elsa Justel, Roxanne Turcotte, and Pierre Henry. Then on August 27, a concert concluding an acousmatic diffusion workshop will feature 15 works by just as many composers, including Francis Dhomont and Marc Tremblay.

Robert Normandeau and Jean-François Denis presented the closing concert of the “Akusmatisches Wochenende” festival produced by the Studio für elektroakustische Musik (SeaM) in Weimar (Germany) on June 18, 2006. The programme included works by Normandeau, and, spatialized by Denis, short works by Elainie Lillios, Elsa Justel, Elizabeth Hoffman, Natasha Barrett, John Oswald, Yves Daoust, and Pierre Alexandre Tremblay.

Dhomont and Parra at ICMC 2005

Parr(A)cousmatique

Sol y sombra… L’espace des spectres, a composition by Francis Dhomont and Arturo Parra, was selected for the next edition of the ICMC (International Computer Music Conference), to be held in Barcelona (Spain) from September 5 to 9, 2005. The European premiere of the work will take place at the Auditori on September 8, 2005. Works by Daniel Teruggi, Ludger Brümmer, Beatriz Ferreyra, David Berezan, Jean-Claude Risset, Elsa Justel and Paulina Sundin were also selected.

Justel Wins the 2005 Ton Bruynèl Prize

Composer Elsa Justel was awarded the Prix Ton Bruynèl 2005 for her work Bastet, for solo tape. The jury admired the refined sounds and immense technical command in this work.

10th Acousmatic Festival, Brussels

Insect GrooveAux lampions

To celebrate its 10th edition “L’Espace du Son,” the international festival of acousmatic music in Belgium, invited several pairs of composers to confront their distinct musical approaches. Each night, the public will be treated to two styles, two sensibilities that will stress the diversity in acousmatic music. On November 14, 2003, French Bertrand Dubedout and Canadian Sarah Peebles will compare their sonic impressions of the Japanese cities of Nara and Tokyo. November 15, its the gentle and meditative music of Swede Erik Michael Karlsson against the nervous and dynamic work of Philippe Mion. And finally, the 16, time for Elsa Justel’s granular sounds and Ludger Brümmer’s energy modelisation.

Truax at Música Viva, Lisbon

IslandsSix Japanese Gardens; Trois rivières Delta

Música Viva 2003, the International Festival of Electroacoustic Music held in Coimbra’s Museu dos Transportes (Portugal), presents 6 days of concerts from September 12 to 18, 2003. Composer Barry Truax will present an octophonic concert September 17, featuring works of Wende Bartley and Laurie Radford (with viola by Laura Wilcox). The following night, September 19, the concert is dedicated to mixed works for percussions with compositions by Kaija Saariaho, Beatriz Ferreyra and Elsa Justel.

Bourges 2002: Rewarded Composers

Canadian composer Marcelle Deschênes is one of the rewarded composers at the 2002 edition of the Bourges International Electroacoustic Competition where she was awarded the prize for best “multi-media work” for Die Dyer (video by Alain Pelletier). Elsa Justel received a mention in the same category for her work Destellos. For the “studio work without instrument” category, canadian composer David Berezan won the Trivium award. In the same category, composer Jens Hedman received a mention for his work REcoil. In addition to the rewarded musics, the compositions Gwerz by Elsa Justel, Low Memory #2 by Monique Jean and L’éveil d’un titan by Jean-François Laporte had been selected in their respective categories.

Elsa Justel, Lectures and Creation, Summer 2002

Composer Elsa Justel will give a lecture and a master class at the 1st Russian International Electronic and Electroacoustic Music Festival held in St Petersburg from July 19 to August 1, 2002. Also, her acousmatic work Gwerz will be premiered on June 3, 2002 during the “Synthèse 2002” festival in Bourges (France).
