In the sphere of Musique actuelle François Houle has performed with Marilyn Crispell, Dave Douglas, Marc Dresser, Joëlle Léandre, Michael Moore, the NOW Orchestra, Evan Parker, John Butcher, William O Smith, Georg Graewe, Paul Plimley, and Myra Melford. He is also highly involved in the development of contemporary Canadian music, performing with Standing Wave, the Vancouver New Music Ensemble, and collaborating in projects with foremost composers such as Paul Dolden, Sergio Barroso, and John Oliver. Recent performances include Canadian and European tours, the Wiener Musik Gallery Let’s Cool One chamber jazz festival, Radio Bremen’s Pro Musica Nova festival, WDR (Köln), The Loft (München), the Festival de musique actuelle de Victoriaville (FIMAV), Guelph Jazz Festival, New Music Across America, Time Flies Vancouver Company, Seattle’s World Jazz Festival, Paris’s Banlieues bleues festival, the BBC Radio-3’s Impressions. His recordings on Red Toucan (Montréal), Songlines (Vancouver), between-the-lines (Frankfurt), Hat Art (Zurich), empreintes DIGITALes (Montréal), Spool (Scarborough), and Nuscope (Dallas) have received enthusiastic reviews from the international press.
