Revue & Corrigée Investigates: Why Do you Make CDs?

The French magazine Revue & Corrigée (#76, June 2008) has published an impelling article Pourquoi faites-vous des disques? (“Why do you make CDs?”). Jérôme Noetinger, remembering the 1987 Libération special issue asking “Why do you make films?” and the answer by Jean-Luc Godard (“I make movies to avoid the why question”), has decided to ask "the why question" to about 40 artists and producers, among whom: Jean-François Denis, Bertrand Denzler, Bernard Fort, Lionel Marchetti, Martin Tétreault, Carole Rieussec, Joëlle Léandre

Fort in the Oratory of Caluire, France

On June 29, 2007 Bernard Fort will present his Messe pour le mois d’octobre at the Chapelle de l’Oratoire in Caluire (France). This 5-movement work explores different acoustic spaces — might they be in stereo, multitracks or panoramic — recorded outside or inside, partially or totally reconstituted. The work also explores the multiple uses of voice, and sound symbolism.

Fort Composes for Dance in Lyon

Dhomont, Harrison… Invited to Sardinia

Ludger Brümmer, Kevin Austin, Flô Menezes, Francis Dhomont, Lucio Garau, and Jonty Harrison are the guest composers at the 3rd Festival di musica acusmatica, June 23 to 25, 2006 in Cagliari (Sardinia). On June 24, Dhomont will spatialize works by several Québec composers: Noyade en magma by Dominique Bassal, 13'13 pour voix défigurées by Monique Jean and Time Well / La fontaine du temps by Christian Calon, and a work by Brümmer. Voyage-miroir by Dhomont will be presented by another guest composer, Garau. Finally, several other composers from empreintes DIGITALes will also be featured: Gobeil, Moore, Alvarez, Smalley, Tutschku, Fort, Stollery, and Lillios!

Harrison and Vande Gorne at Nuit bleue 2005

Élektrophonie presents the 2005 Nuit bleue from July 8 to 10, 2005 at Arc et Senans’ Saline Royale (France). Nuit bleue 2005 is the 4th edition of this festival dedicated to new electroacoustic and electronic music, and is presented in coproduction with the University of Birmingham (United Kingdom) and Musiques & Recherches (Belgium). Every acousmatic composition will be spatialized on acousmonium by Sébastien Chatron, Jonty Harrison, Isabel Pires and Annette Vande Gorne. The night will feature compositions by Pete Stollery, Adrian Moore, Denis Smalley, Stephan Dunkelman, Ingrid Drese, Robert Normandeau, Francis Dhomont, Patrick Ascione, Andrew Lewis, Trevor Wishart, Annette Vande Gorne, Elizabeth Anderson, Theodore Lotis, Roger Cochini, Bernard Fort, Jonty Harrison, John Young, David Berezan et Beatriz Ferreyra, amongst others. The concert will then be repeated integrally in Birmingham (UK) on July 16, 2005.

Fort Presents His “Safari in the Dark”

Both a huge sound installation and a concert in which the nocturnal sounds of nature create a vast symphony, Bernard Fort’s Safari dans le noir (“Safari in the dark”) will be presented September 17 and 18, 2004 in the Parc de la villa Gillet (Lyon, France). In this acousmatic safari, the listener walks across a wide soundscape with the help of his or her flashlight. The sounds heard, of birds, frogs, insects and mammals, come from many years of night recording in France and Europe.

Acousmatic Festival in Brussels

The 11th L’espace du son International Acousmatic Festival will be held in Brussels (Belgium) from October 20 to 24, 2004 along with the composition competition finals and the spatialization performance competition. Sound Magicians at Futura 03, Crest, France

Paris’ Glaz’Art will host the Futura festival September 24 and 25, 2003. Under the theme “Sound Magicians,” director of Motus acousmonium, Denis Dufour and three performers will take turns at the console of an impressive system of more than 50 loudspeakers. On September 24, a first concert will feature works by De Filippis, Zanesi, Teruggi, Schaeffer, Reibel, Normandeau, Fort and Ascione. Ivo Malec, Michel Chion and many other composers are also presented the following day. Finally, late-night concerts will be devoted to masters of the medium Luc Ferrari and Bernard Parmegiani.
