Yesterday at the 14th Opus Prize Gala in Montréal Jean-François Denis — the director of empreintes DIGITALes which was celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2010 — was presented with the ”2009-10 Opus Prize: Artistic Director of the Year.” Francis Dhomont’s Études pour Kafka was awarded the “2009-10 Opus Prize: Disc of the Year — actuelle and electroacoustic music.”
The empreintes DIGITALes label is again invited to participate in the Qwartz Electronic Music Awards events. The 6th edition will take place on April 2 - 3, 2010 at Palais Brongniart (Bourse subway station) in Paris (France). Come and visit us starting at 2 pm at Stand #36! Admission to the Market is free. Jean-François Denis and Christian Zanési will be part of a round table discussion on Pierre Schaeffer’s heritage on April 2; the next day at 6 pm Mathew Adkins will spatialize his Symbiont on the acousmonium.
In its most recent edition, focused on electroacoustic music, Swedish magazine Nutida Musik recently published an interview conducted by Andreas Engström in June 2008 in Paris with Jean-François Denis on empreintes DIGITALes.
The French magazine Revue & corrigée (#76, June 2008) has published an impelling article Pourquoi faites-vous des disques? (“Why do you make CDs?”). Jérôme Noetinger, remembering the 1987 Libération special issue asking “Why do you make films?” and the answer by Jean-Luc Godard (“I make movies to avoid the why question”), has decided to ask "the why question" to about 40 artists and producers, amongst whom: Jean-François Denis, Bertrand Denzler, Bernard Fort, Lionel Marchetti, Martin Tétreault, Carole Rieussec, Joëlle Léandre…
Jean-François Denis is invited to the “Marketing” roundtable discussion on May 23, 2008 during the New Models of Distribution Conference, organized by Soundstreams in Toronto. Recently, on May 9, he was also invited to present the recent activities of the empreintes DIGITALes label at the 2nd International Marketplace of Digital Arts (MIAN), organized by ACREQ in Montréal.
Robin Minard, ex-member of Sonde, is back in Montréal after 20 years of absence! He will present Sons sur papier, a retrospective of several sound installations, at Oboro from April 12 to May 10, 2008. He will also diffuse 3 acousmatic works as part of the Pulsar *3 series on April 14, 2008 at the Planétarium de Montréal. The opening feature of this concert is Nicolas Bernier’s premiere of Les chambres de l’atelier. Note that at this occasion co-artistic directors of Réseaux, Jean-François Denis, Gilles Gobeil, and Robert Normandeau, are “passing the torch” to Nicolas Bernier, versatile and prolific young composer…

Jean-François Denis will participate to the RCMN’s Workshops Tour, and present a lecture entitled Technical, Practical, Historical and Philosophical Issues of Recorded New Music in the 21st Century. This tour will take place from February 17 to 24, 2008 in the cities of Halifax, Toronto, Victoria, and Vancouver (Canada).
Robert Normandeau and Jean-François Denis presented the closing concert of the “Akusmatisches Wochenende” festival produced by the Studio für elektroakustische Musik (SeaM) in Weimar (Germany) on June 18, 2006. The programme included works by Normandeau, and, spatialized by Denis, short works by Elainie Lillios, Elsa Justel, Elizabeth Hoffman, Natasha Barrett, John Oswald, Yves Daoust, and Pierre Alexandre Tremblay.
The ZKM — Institut für Musik und Akustik in Karlsruhe (Germany) presented the “trans_canada: Tendenzen in Akusmatik und Soundscapes / Trends in Acousmatics and Soundscapes” event on February 10 — 13, 2005. Four days of concerts and discussions organized by Sabine Breitsameter and Ludger Brümmer with 9 ZKM commissions and world premières by Canadian composers Francis Dhomont, Darren Copeland, Nicolas Bernier, Hildegard Westerkamp, Barry Truax, Louis Dufort, Robert Normandeau, and Gilles Gobeil along with conferences by Jean-François Denis, Christoph von Blumröder (Köln), Rudolf Frisius (Karlsruhe), and Daniel Teruggi (Paris).
