Canadians on DEGEM WebRadio

The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) has hosted a number of Canadian electroacoustic composers over the years such as: Robin Minard, Gordon Monahan, Christian Calon, Francis Dhomont, and Robert Normandeau. The DEGEM and ZKM propose a WebRadio programme which features works composed by these past guest artists as well as by the newest Canadian guest, Gilles Gobeil, in Berlin since January 2008. The Programme B is under section “Berichte/Features.”

The 2007 CIMESP Laureates, Brazil

The 7th International Electroacoustic Music Contest of São Paulo (VII CIMESP 2007) received works of 208 composers from 33 countries! The international jury formed by Christian Calon, Gilles Gobeil, Flo Menezes and João Pedro Oliveira has awarded, amongst others, Liaisons mécaniques by Nicolas Bernier (Second Prize ex-æquo) and honorable mentions were given to 7 works, including those of Elizabeth Anderson, António Ferreira, Hans TutschkuPremières traces du Choucas by Francis Dhomont won the Public Prize.

Were also announced the selected works for the upcoming 7th International Biennial for Electroacoustic Music of São Paulo (VII BIMESP 2008) in the fall of 2008. They include: Last Thoughts Before Silence by Mathew Adkins, scènes/rendez-vous by Pete Stollery, Kaleidoscope: Arcade by Peter Batchelor, When I was Wood by Stephan Dunkelman.

New Works by Calon, Drese, Normandeau and Vande Gorne at L’espace du son, Brussels

The 14th international acousmatic festival “L’espace du son” will take place from October 17 to 21, 2007 at Théâtre Marni in Brussels. The opening night of the festival will celebrate the Musiques & Recherches’ 25th anniversary, premiering 3 musical works: Voix de l’aurore by Ingrid Drese, Murmures by Robert Normandeau, and Chœur des femmes 2, a movement from the opera Yawar Fiesta by Annette Vande Gorne on a libretto by Werner Lambersy. The day after, October 18, will be dedicated to Christian Calon’s music; October 19, to Jean-François Minjard; October 20, to Bernard Parmegiani; and October 21 to Beatriz Ferreyra and Ana Dall’Ara-Majek.

Calon and Tutschku at LAC2007, Berlin

Following a residency at the Technische Universität (TU) in Berlin (Germany) from March 11 to 21, 2007 where he is finishing a new composition, Christian Calon will premiere the third region of Atlas (Est) as part of the 5th International Linux Audio Conference (LAC2007) on March 22 - 25, 2007 in Berlin. For this occasion, the multitrack work has been produced for a spatialisation on very wide WFS (Wave Field Synthesis) surround system on 840 tracks and about 3,000 loudspeakers. Furthermore, Nord (the first region of Atlas) by the same composer and Rituale by Hans Tutschku will be presented in concert respectively on March 23 and March 24, again as part of the concerts organized by Tesla and the Deutsche Akademische Austausch Dienst (DAAD) for LAC2007.

Ludger Brümmer, Kevin Austin, Flô Menezes, Francis Dhomont, Lucio Garau, and Jonty Harrison are the guest composers at the 3rd Festival di musica acusmatica, June 23 to 25, 2006 in Cagliari (Sardinia). On June 24, Dhomont will spatialize works by several Québec composers: Noyade en magma by Dominique Bassal, 13'13 pour voix défigurées by Monique Jean and Time Well / La fontaine du temps by Christian Calon, and a work by Brümmer. Voyage-miroir by Dhomont will be presented by another guest composer, Garau. Finally, several other composers from empreintes DIGITALes will also be featured: Gobeil, Moore, Alvarez, Smalley, Tutschku, Fort, Stollery, and Lillios!

On May 25 Jocelyn Robert will present Resident of Unit D at Telas-Kubus (Klosterstraße 68-70, Berlin-Mitte). On May 28, at Villa Elisabeth (Invalidenstraße 3, Berlin-Mitte), Christian Calon, Robert Normandeau, Gilles Gobeil, and Francis Dhomont will respectively present their acousmatic work Time Well / La fontaine du temps, Tangram, Nuit cendre, and Voyage-miroir. During the whole festival, May 24-28, at DAAD Galerie (Zimmerstraße 90/91, Berlin-Mitte), the works StrinGDberg and Éden by Robert Normandeau will be played every half-hour from 11am to 6pm; a conference by this DAAD resident composer is planned for May 24 at 6pm.

Yves Daoust is one of the artists selected to produce a work to be presented on May 27 and 28, 2005 as part of the festival Deep Wireless. The artist will also be giving a short talk during the “Radio Without Boundaries” conference. About Time is a short sound documentary which aims to bring the tape recorder back to life. The work will be broadcast on CBC Radio in May 2005. Chantal Dumas and Christian Calon will also take part in the “Radioroad Mix” with a live presentation of “The little man in the ear” [Le petit homme dans l’oreille] on May 29, 2005.

Mois Multi Presents “Soft Avatar,” Québec City

Mois Multi, a festival of technological art, presents Soft Avatar, a concert of performances made with four original digital instruments created by the audio art collective Avatar, on February 12, 2005 at the Multi hall of Quebec City’s Méduse complex. Jocelyn Robert, Louis Ouellet, Mériol Lehmann and Éric Morin will make a demonstration of “Map-O-Mix”. Philippe Pasquier will use the “MachinesMOTOR” in an multi-channel audiovideo context. Jocelyn Robert will perform with the “MRNJR” (a double Macchina Ricordi) and Georges Azzaria performance will feature the “DÉCHIQUETEUSErecoleuse” (CUTTERpaster). Finally, Christian Calon will present four compositions, each of them executed with one of the four software.
