Robin Minard: Gallery Show, Concert in Montréal

Robin Minard, ex-member of Sonde, is back in Montréal after 20 years of absence! He will present Sons sur papier, a retrospective of several sound installations, at Oboro from April 12 to May 10, 2008. He will also diffuse 3 acousmatic works as part of the Pulsar *3 series on April 14, 2008 at the Planétarium de Montréal. The opening feature of this concert is Nicolas Bernier’s premiere of Les chambres de l’atelier. Note that at this occasion co-artistic directors of Réseaux, Jean-François Denis, Gilles Gobeil, and Robert Normandeau, are “passing the torch” to Nicolas Bernier, versatile and prolific young composer…

Poulin-Denis Dances in Lille

The show Les angles morts will be presented at Les Repérages festival in Lille (France) on March 28, 2008. The choreography is by Mélanie Demers, the music and performance by Jacques Poulin-Denis. Besides, O Vertigo’s La chambre blanche (not to be mixed-up with Robert Normandeau’s work with the same title!), another choreography for which Nicolas Bernier and Jacques Poulin-Denis have composed the music, is still touring Europe until March 21, 2008.

But that’s not all! This event also features the works of Martin Bédard, Nicolas Bernier, Ludger Brümmer, Marcelle Deschênes, Gilles Gobeil, Denis Smalley, Hans Tutschku, Hildegard Westerkamp, Trevor Wishart, and David Berezan and Jonty Harrison who will each world premiere a new piece… In short, this event is not to be missed and it takes place from November 2 to 4, 2007.

Milliseconde topographie in Sherbrooke and Seoul

Milliseconde topographie

Milliseconde topographie will present its videomusic Treelogy 3: Orchid at Galerie Horace art actuel in Sherbrooke on August 23, 2007, and also during the EXiS 2007 festival in Seoul (South Korea) on August 24-30. Furthermore, Milliseconde topographie will launch a retrospective DVD-V of their videomusic in the fall. The disc will also include a new audio project which combines ancient music instruments (barrel organ, harpsichord, dulcimer) and new technologies.

Époxy 4: Babin, Bernier, Dumas, in Montréal

During the next Époxy (a music series that presents works based on a relation between a composer and a theorist, mathematician, philosopher, architect or another artist) Magali Babin will present a piece that relates to Sophie Calle’s work, Nicolas Bernier will make reference to the essay The Electronic Revolution by William S Burroughs, and Chantal Dumas will offer a composition based on the two different worlds of John Cage and of Toronto artist Mike Hoolboom. Epoxy 4 will take place on May 23, 2007 at La Sala Rossa, Montréal. You can listen to online audio clips of some of these musicians on Chemin de fer and Étude no 3 pour cordes et poulies.

A Concert of Premieres in Brussels

Dufort and Chouinard Get a Mention in Bourges

The winners of the 33rd Bourges International Competition of Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art (France) are announced. Cantique #2, by Louis Dufort and Marie Chouinard, received a mention in the category “Trivium — work for multimedia” while their Cantique #3 was selected in the “Trivium — sound installation” category. Composers James Duhamel, Nicolas Bernier, Natasha Barrett, Pierre Alexandre Tremblay, Ludger Brümmer, and Roxanne Turcotte had their work selected in other categories.

Conferences and Concert by Normandeau in the UK

Normandeau will present conferences at Birmingham University on March 15, at Manchester University on March 22, and at Huddersfield University on March 23. Part of the GEMdays concert series, Robert Normandeau will give a concert at Huddersfield University on March 23, 2006, featuring his works Rumeurs (Place de Ransbeck), Palimpseste, Chorus, and StrinGDberg.

Also featured during GEMdays: a concert of audiovisual works by Mathew Adkins, Marcelle Deschênes + Alain Pelletier, and Milliseconde topographie (Nicolas Bernier + Delphine Measroch) on March 25 as well as concerts by Jean Piché on March 27 and Pierre Alexandre Tremblay on March 28, 2006.

Four days of concerts and discussions organized by Sabine Breitsameter and Ludger Brümmer with 9 ZKM commissions and world premières by Canadian composers Francis Dhomont, Darren Copeland, Nicolas Bernier, Hildegard Westerkamp, Barry Truax, Louis Dufort, Robert Normandeau, and Gilles Gobeil along with conferences by Jean-François Denis, Christoph von Blumröder (Köln), Rudolf Frisius (Karlsruhe), and Daniel Teruggi (Paris).

Times Play Features New Young Composers

Cache 2003 CA+UK

Winners of the 2004 edition of the composition competition Jeu de temps / Times Play were revealed last week by the Canadian Electroacoustic Community (CEC). They are young composers Ben Wilson, Nicolas Bernier, Mathieu Marcoux, Stefan Smulovitz and Daniel Pruger. And while we are waiting the official release of the compilation Cache 2003 CA+UK, the participants of the upcoming edition were also announced. Compositions by Freida Abtan, Samuel Beaudoin, David Bednarczyk, Nicolas Bernier, Martin Lord, Mathieu Marcoux, Daniel Pruger, Stefan Smulovitz, Nick Storring and Ben Wilson will be featured on Cache 2004.
