“Sound Art” Workshop with Barrett, Burton… in OrfordThe Orford Arts Centre (Québec) announces its 3rd Sound Art Workshop as part of the International Music Academy. Held on August 4 to 15, 2007, this workshop is open to sound creators of all styles. The guests composers-teachers are Natasha Barrett, Alexandre Burton, Yves Daoust, Jean Landry, and Paul Rudy. This year, the composers registered will be able to collaborate with performers of the Contemporary Music Interpretation Workshop.

Barrett’s Crack Premieres in Sweden
On March 30, 2007 Ensemble Ars Nova will be performing Crack — Integra’s first commission to Natasha Barrett — during the Connect Festival at Lunds Universitet (Sweden). The composer collaborated to a project with La Kitchen (Paris) to develop the electronic elements that are used in the piece.

Barrett Wins 2006 Nordic Council Music PrizeNatasha Barrett was awarded the Nordisk Råds Musikkpris (Nordic Council Music Prize) on June 3, 2006 for her work … fetters…. Twelve composers and musicians from Denmark, Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden were finalists. The jury states that Natasha Barrett “shows a clear consciousness of the capacity of silence to highlight the various interest-moments in the composition, in a shifting interplay between activity and calm, chaos and order. In addition, Barrett demonstrates an impressively skilful grasp of the unique technological potential of the medium.” The prize will be presented to her on November 1st in Copenhagen.

Dufort and Chouinard Get a Mention in BourgesThe winners of the 33rd Bourges International Competition of Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art (France) are announced. Cantique #2, by Louis Dufort and Marie Chouinard, received a mention in the category “Trivium — work for multimedia” while their Cantique #3 was selected in the “Trivium — sound installation” category. Composers James Duhamel, Nicolas Bernier, Natasha Barrett, Pierre Alexandre Tremblay, Ludger Brümmer, and Roxanne Turcotte had their work selected in other categories.

Moore and Barrett at Soundings…, Edinburgh, UKSoundings… finishes its 2004-05 season with another 4 concerts of international Sonic Art held at Reid Concert Hall (Edinburgh). Barrett and Smalley’s Premieres at Sonorities, BelfastComposers Natasha Barrett and Denis Smalley will each premiere a new composition for the Sonorities festival of contemporary music, held in Belfast (Northern Irland) from April 23 to May 1, 2004. Natasha Barrett presents her new work, Abemolpas, April 27. This concert also features works by Christian Calon and Elio Martusciello. The following day, April 28, Denis Smalley will premiere his new composition, entitled Resounding. On, April 29 the concert will feature works by Robert Normandeau and Jonty Harrison. Normandeau in DenmarkRobert Normandeau will give a solo concert for the Danish Institute of Electroacoustic Music (DIEM) festival in Århus (Denmark) November 27, 2003. This concert will be the chance for the composer to present all his latest works in a multichannel format. In addition to Chorus (2002), Le renard et la rose (1995) and StrinGDberg (2001-03), this concert will be an occasion to listen to the new version of Éden (2003) and will see the European creation of Hamlet-Machine with Actors (2003) recently premiered in Vancouver. Apart from this concert, Normandeau will give a lecture and participate in two master class with Natasha Barrett (in concert November 26, 2003) and Wayne Siegel.

eD: Natasha Barrett Signs “Isostasie”
After a noticed participation on the compilation Miniatures concrètes and two autoproduced albums on her small label Nota Bene, Natasha Barrett presents her first CD on the empreintes DIGITALes label, the rich and scintillating Isostasie. A student of Jonty Harrison and Denis Smalley, strongly inspired by the many faces of the Norwegian environment, this brilliant composer offers in Isostasie wonderful acousmatic paintings. We can hear on this recording, amongst others, two of her prized compositions: Industrial Revelations was awarded First Prize at Musica Nova (1998), and The Utility of Space was awarded a First Prize at the 28th Bourges International Electroacoustic Music and Sonic Art Competition (2001).
