Babin in Residence at Studio XX, Montréal

Magali Babin, artist whose sonorous performances are characterized by a minimalistic approach, is in residence at Studio XX (Montréal) from mid-November 2007 until January 31, 2008. During the residence, she will create a game interface for an interactive performance inspired by Tor (decentralized network that allows anonymous connexion on the Internet); a project to experimenting techniques of surveillance, concepts of simulation and technological hoaxes.

Époxy 4: Babin, Bernier, Dumas, in Montréal

During the next Époxy (a music series that presents works based on a relation between a composer and a theorist, mathematician, philosopher, architect or another artist) Magali Babin will present a piece that relates to Sophie Calle’s work, Nicolas Bernier will make reference to the essay The Electronic Revolution by William S Burroughs, and Chantal Dumas will offer a composition based on the two different worlds of John Cage and of Toronto artist Mike Hoolboom. Epoxy 4 will take place on May 23, 2007 at La Sala Rossa, Montréal. You can listen to online audio clips of some of these musicians on Chemin de fer and Étude no 3 pour cordes et poulies.

Katharine Norman’s book Sounding Art: Eight Literary Excursions through Electronic Music (242 pages + 1 CD) is now available on electrocd.com. Montréal invades Static x-static in Vancouver

The Vancouver New Music Festival produces Interférence: statique x-statique / static x-static and presents, on Wednesday Octobre 19, 2005, Fred Frith, Jean Derome and Pierre Tanguay. And on Thursday October 20, it’s Diane Labrosse, Jean-Pierre Gauthier and The Unexpected. Then, on Friday October 21, the festival presents Joane Hétu, Magali Babin and Klaxon Gueule. Finally, on Saturday October 22, morceaux_de_machines will be making their first Vancouver appearance at the festival.

No Type at Suoni Per Il Popolo, Montréal

Then, two electronic superstars, Magali Babin and Jon Vaughn, will present an exclusive collaboration on June 18, 2005 for the Libératrices: créatrices night, dedicated to women in improvisation.

Babin Performs Solo in Quebec City

Magali Babin will present a ritualized audio performance, Solo #13, at La Chambre blanche (Quebec City) on Friday October 1, 2004. Sound amplification and transformation will interact with performative actions by artist Marie-Claude Bouthillier. For the occasion, Bouthillier will read excerpts from novels whose subject is painters. These actions will stress the phenomenological aspect of the diffusion of audio elements in an architectural space.

“Machines”: No Type performances in Quebec City

The second edition of the “Machines” concerts will be held in Quebec City during the Mois Multi event. A joint presentation by No Type, Avatar and Recto-Verso, this night of audio performances proposes to the public a meeting of four hardened improvisers. First, a duo by Magali Babin (amplified objects) and Guillaume Théroux (4 track tape recorder) presents a “musique concrète” improvisation. Secondly, the Martin Tétreault (turntables) and Érick Dorion (computer) duo offers a maximalist and dynamic noise performance. The four musicians will then complete the night with a collective improvsation. Salle Multi of Méduse (Quebec City), Saturday February 23, 2002, 8pm.
