EMS Conference in June in Paris

Mathew Adkins will present his work Melt on May 7, 2008 during the ElectroFest, an event that takes place as part of the University of East London Mayfest 08 (England, UK). Moreover, from May 5 to 21 Mathew Adkins is composer in residence at IMEB in Bourges, completing a new composition which will be premiered during Synthèse 2008 - 38th Bourges International Electronic Music and Compositions Festival on May 31. He will also be part of the Bourges’ International Competitions of Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art jury.

Premieres by Adkins in England, Wales

Mathew Adkins will be presenting, on January 23, 2008, a new work at the Music Research Centre, University of York (England, UK): Five Panels no 1, commission by SpACE-Net. The piece will be presented several times again: on January 26 at the GEMdays Festival in Huddersfield (England, UK); on February 2 as part of the Sonic Arts Research Day at the University of Leeds (England, UK); then on February 28 during the Bangor New Music Festival 2008 in Bangor (Wales, UK). This last concert will also include Silk to Steel, Symbiont, Vistas and the world premiere of Five Panels no 3.

The 2007 CIMESP Laureates, Brazil

The 7th International Electroacoustic Music Contest of São Paulo (VII CIMESP 2007) received works of 208 composers from 33 countries! The international jury formed by Christian Calon, Gilles Gobeil, Flo Menezes and João Pedro Oliveira has awarded, amongst others, Liaisons mécaniques by Nicolas Bernier (Second Prize ex-æquo) and honorable mentions were given to 7 works, including those of Elizabeth Anderson, António Ferreira, Hans TutschkuPremières traces du Choucas by Francis Dhomont won the Public Prize.

Were also announced the selected works for the upcoming 7th International Biennial for Electroacoustic Music of São Paulo (VII BIMESP 2008) in the fall of 2008. They include: Last Thoughts Before Silence by Mathew Adkins, scènes/rendez-vous by Pete Stollery, Kaleidoscope: Arcade by Peter Batchelor, When I was Wood by Stephan Dunkelman.

The 3rd part of June 18, 2007 radio programme Électrain de nuit — broadcasted on France vivace (Radio France) and hosted by Christian Zanesi and David Jisse — will be dedicated to label empreintes DIGITALes.   • May 19: Noumena (cello, and electronics) will be performed by Iracema de Andrade at Sala Manuel M Ponce of the Palacio de las Bellas Artes in Mexico City (Mexico) as part of the 29th Foro Internacional de Música Nueva Manuel Enríquez; Cortex will be performed at the IMMArts TechArt20xx Exhibition of the Northerm Illinois University in DeKalb (US);
  • May 24: Silk to Steel will be performed at the Surrounded Symposia taking place at the University of Keele (UK);
  • July 8: Cortex will be performed again at the Digital Music Research Network Conference at Leeds Metropolitan University (UK);
  • August 18: Silent Red will be performed at the Futura 2007 festival in Crest (France.

CIMESP and Sweden at BIMESP, Brazil

The 6th BIMESP festival — directed by Flô Menezes — took place from June 10 to 17, 2006 at Villa Mariani in São Paulo (Brazil). Some of the concerts presented works from the 4th CIMESP (International Electroacoustic Music Contest of São Paulo) such as Vol d’Arondes by Francis Dhomont, Serendipities and Synchronicities by Pete Stollery, Rojo by Hans Tutschku, Silk to Steel by Mathew Adkins, and Éden by Robert Normandeau. One concert was dedicated to works from Sweden, including the recent Dreaming in Darkness by Åke Parmerud and works by Skog, Johansson, Hedman, Grahn, Sundin, and Liljekvist.

Part of the GEMdays concert series, Robert Normandeau will give a concert at Huddersfield University on March 23, 2006, featuring his works Rumeurs (Place de Ransbeck), Palimpseste, Chorus, and StrinGDberg.

“Voyages sonores” in Birmingham

“Voyages sonores” is a weekend of acousmatic events organized by BEAST and held on March 17 to 19, 2006 at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Centre (Birmingham, UK). The 2005 CIMESP Laureates, Brazil

At the 6th International Electroacoustic Music Contest of São Paulo (CIMESP, Brazil), David Berezan won the First Prize for Styal and Francis Dhomont won an Honorable Mention for Vol d’Arondes. Mathew Adkins and Robert Normandeau also saw their work selected for the finals. Serendipities and Synchronicities by Pete Stollery and Rojo by Hans Tutschku were selected for concert presentation at the 6th BIMESP (International Biennial for Electroacoustic Music of São Paulo) in 2006.

2005 Bourges Winners

The winners of the 32nd Bourges International Competition of Electroacoustic Music and Sound Art (France) have been announced. The Magisterium was awarded to composer Åke Parmerud and his work SubString Bridge, for guitar and interactive computer. Mathew Adkins received a mention in the “abstract music” category for Silk to Steel. Pete Stollery’s Vox Magna was also selected in this category. Other pieces were selected in various categories: Ombres, espaces, silences… by Gilles Gobeil, Cold Storage by Janek Schaefer, Piano Piece (for Peter) by Adrian Moore, and Aesthetics of the Machine by Elio Martusciello. Notably, composer Roxanne Turcotte saw two of her works selected, Sons et tintamarre in the “program music” category and Micro-trottoir in the “work for installation” category.
